A native New Mexican, Charles Maynard, DO, received his BA in psychology from Texas Christian University and a doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery from the Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. Following a number of years of practice in a variety of settings, Dr. Maynard had to retire because of illness. He has worked as a radio news reporter and until he passed away earlier this year made his living as a writer, actor, director, and public speaker. He most recently lived in Santa Fe with his wife, Laura, and his Yorkie, Stanley. We miss Chuck, and he lives in our hearts through his writing and good spirit. His first book, Thriving Through Devastating Illness, was published in 2014 by Asklepieion Books, one of Intermundia Press’s imprints.
Thriving Through Devastating Illness
Refreshingly candid, Dr. Maynard’s personal story of being overexposed to x-ray radiation provides the backdrop for this sensitively written book. You will learn about types of devastating illness; dealing with insurance companies, hospitals, doctors, as well as family and friend; and you will get a doctor’s perspective on pain, death, and one’s relationship with God, all of which point us in the direction of thriving rather than merely surviving.
